Congratulations to Attorney Lauren Stec recently secured a complete recovery for a subcontractor client in a hard-fought construction payment dispute. After the general contractor refused to pay amounts owed under the subcontract, Lanak & Hanna’s Subcontractor Client pursued its claim through arbitration before the American Arbitration Association, obtaining a favorable award that the firm confirmed as a judgment. When the general contractor threatened to close its doors rather than satisfy the judgment, Attorney Stec turned to the mechanic’s lien release bond the general contractor had recorded to clear the client’s lien and made a claim against the surety. Faced with that bond claim, the general contractor paid the client in full, including attorney fees, costs, and arbitration costs, bringing the matter to a successful close and underscoring the value of preserving every available avenue of recovery on behalf of unpaid subcontractors.
