The California Department of Industrial Relations Finally Addresses Its Certified Payroll Reporting and Registration Issues

By September 11, 2025September 18th, 2025No Comments

The California Department of Industrial Relations has finally rolled out its long-awaited fixes to its online certified payroll and registration systems.

For years, public works contractors have struggled with an archaic State system that made it incredibly difficult to accurately and timely upload certified payroll to the DIR and made it next to impossible to renew DIR registrations for old or legacy contractors.

The registration system has undergone significant updates over the past several years.  However, on September 10th, the DIR finally unveiled its latest update.  They include detailed instructions on how to accurately electronically file certified payroll and explicit instructions on either registering new DIR accounts or linking and old/existing legacy registration.

The DIR has also issued four new user guides for public works contractors, which we link below for your reference.

  1. User PDF guide – link here
  2. User video guide – link here
  3. eCPR user guide – link here
  4. eCPR user video guide – link here

For those public works contractors struggling with DIR’s outdated registration and uploading systems, this new update should provide additional support and guidance for ensuring full compliance with California’s registration and reporting requirements for public works projects.
